Approaching sewing can be a little scary for some hobbits but to get started there is no need to worry about perfection one just needs a needle and thread and go in and out. To get yourself started its nice to have an assortment of needles (but 1 needle will work) for the materials like a small slim needle for getting tight small stitches but if you need to repair say your heavy wool garment, a longer needle will be best.Of course you will need a good thread, I recommend a nice cotton or linen thread but in a pinch any thread will do.
One Needle and thread is all one needs to get the job done, well scissors yes that would help but if you want to add more to ones tools, wax is nice to strengthen your thread and a thimble to protect your fingers and help push the needle through.
Mending your garments is the best way to jump into the world of sewing while you build up your skills and precision will come with time. It may not be perfect but it was done by you with love and for that you will treasure it!
